The agent of Erling Haaland has given an update on the striker’s contract situation at Manchester City amid speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona this summer.

Haaland raised eyebrows when he penned a new deal with City last year, tying him to the club until 2034 and making the 25-year-old one of the highest-paid players in world football.

Despite being committed to City for another eight years, Haaland has still regularly been linked with a move away from the club, with Barcelona seeing the Norwegian as their dream successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Haaland’s previous contract was believed to have a release clause allowing him to leave City for around €100 million but that clause was removed upon signing the new deal, making the forward’s potential departure substantially more difficult.

Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, shed light on the situation and claimed that the contract terms were agreed as City have all the ‘leverage’ and ‘don’t really need anything.’

"Very serious, they're very organised,” Pimenta told ESPN about City. “They're very big. They know what they're doing, they have a lot of experience, they don't really need anything, they have everything. So we don't have any leverage.”

Haaland set for City stay despite Barcelona interest

Pimenta brushed off rumours in March linking Haaland with a move to Barcelona and insisted that there had been ‘no contact whatsoever’ over a potential move to the La Liga giants.

Haaland has also never suggested that he is unhappy at City or angling for a move, while City have no desire to part ways with their talismanic forward anytime soon and would demand far more than his €138.8m Expected Transfer Value (ETV) in any case.

With Barcelona also not having the financial means to afford Haaland’s fee or wages, any move would be highly unrealistic and it appears a foregone conclusion that the striker will remain with City this summer.

However, the upcoming World Cup will certainly have an effect on the transfer market and, while Haaland is unlikely to be affected, Pimenta admitted that teams such as Liverpool may be active this summer.

"Look, it's hard for me to say that without causing gossip. I'm talking from my head without having any information," she said.

"I think Liverpool will make a lot of moves. Ajax we already know that it is making a lot of moves, everyone knows that. It is an important club, although it is certainly not a big club like Real Madrid and Barcelona."
