Liverpool in battle over second summer signing after successful scouting mission
Liverpool are reportedly ready to battle Manchester United for the signing of RB Leipzig full-back David Raum as they look to sign a replacement for Andrew Robertson this summer.
Robertson has officially confirmed that he will leave Anfield on a Bosman deal when his current contract expires at the end of June, with Tottenham Hotspur believed to be in pole position to secure his signature on a free transfer if they avoid relegation down to the Championship.
The 32-year-old has also been linked with a move to Celtic, although the Scottish giants remain unlikely to complete a deal due to the presence of Kieran Tierney and the fact that several other top European sides want to sign Robertson, including Juventus.
With Robertson’s imminent Liverpool departure now announced, the Reds have begun scouring the market for a potential replacement capable of challenging Milos Kerkez for a starting berth at left-back.
They have identified the aforementioned Raum as a possible target and they sent scouts to watch him in action against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday afternoon, according to a report from TEAMtalk.
Man Utd officials were also in attendance at the Red Bull Arena, with both teams watching Raum and his team-mate Yan Diomande, who scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute.
Raum, 27, joined Leipzig from Hoffenheim back in 2022 and he was named club captain following Willi Orban’s departure last summer. However, he could be set to leave the Bundesliga outfit ahead of next season, with only 12 months remaining on his current deal and significant interest from the Premier League.
Liverpool have identified the Germany star as a suitable candidate to replace Robertson this summer and they are expected to intensify their pursuit of his signature over the coming months as they prepare to sanction a number of high-profile deals.
Liverpool’s summer transfer plans
Liverpool are set for a busy summer transfer window, with the club expected to sign a number of new first-team stars after a disappointing second season under Arne Slot.
Mohamed Salah’s imminent exit means the Reds are in the market for at least one new winger, while they have also been tipped to purchase a new central midfielder amid the uncertain long-term future of Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister.
A deal for Stade Rennais centre-back Jeremy Jacquet has already been announced ahead of this summer, but Liverpool could still be forced to add another option to their roster as Ibrahima Konate is yet to agree fresh terms and could depart on a Bosman deal.
