Enzo Fernandez’s uneasy truce with Chelsea could already be over after quotes from agent Javier Pastore emerged in the French press that indicate that the World Cup winner still has one eye on a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Enzo found himself in hot water with Chelsea over the international break after a series of quotes emerged strongly hinting that he wants a summer move to Real Madrid.

Pastore came out publicly on Thursday and defended his player, claiming that “peace” had been made with the Premier League giants over the issue. But the agent was simultaneously fuelling transfer rumours in the French press via an interview published by Onze.

Enzo Fernandez’s agent issues Chelsea ultimatum

Enzo’s agent has said that the player’s focus is on Chelsea but admitted that if the club misses out on Champions League qualification, there is a very real possibility that he could leave.

“It's normal that there are rumours because of my connection to Paris Saint-Germain,” Pastore, who was a playmaker with the Ligue 1 giants, explained.

“He'll play in the World Cup this summer and finish the season with Chelsea.

“Now, we're waiting for Chelsea to qualify for the Champions League because he wants to play in the best competitions and he's a winner, and then we'll see. Honestly, we're not thinking about that right now.”

Pastore did, however, stress that Enzo is “very happy” at Chelsea.

“He's captain and is already in his third year here. Honestly, these are the best years of his career and he feels good there,” the former Argentina international said.

“I live in Madrid, so everyone says he's going to Madrid... but it's more press hype than anything else.”

Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea: What’s going on?

Enzo Fernandez previously said that he would like to move to Madrid because it reminds him of Buenos Aires, with this comment arriving shortly after he refused to commit his long-term future to Chelsea following their Champions League exit at the hands of PSG.

This prompted Chelsea to issue the player with a two-game ban that saw him miss the emphatic FA Cup success over Port Vale and is expected to see him sit out the Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday – a fixture vital for the Blues’ Champions League qualification hopes.

On Thursday, Pastore issued a statement claiming a truce had been reached between the player and the club.

Speaking to French outlet Top Mercato, Pastore said: “What happened, happened. We explained to the player that, even if he did nothing wrong, he should not have said that. He is only 25 years old. He is still young and still has things to learn.

“We explained to the club that he said it without any malice and that he was wrong to do so. He naturally apologised to the club, his teammates, the manager, the sporting director, everyone. We are all on the same page. It was simply a matter of clearing up a misunderstanding.

“We are on the same wavelength with Chelsea. We made peace yesterday and the day before between Chelsea and the player. There was never really a problem. We have cleared things up.”

Enzo paying for a lack of experience

Enzo seems to be suffering in part from the inexperience of Pastore as an agent. The 36-year-old is the joint founder of ‘The Elegant Game’ agency, which has been running for little over a year, and has a small portfolio of Argentine players, of which the Chelsea star is clearly the biggest.

Pastore has sent out mixed messages regarding the midfielder’s future, on one hand claiming that Enzo is happy at Chelsea but on the other threatening the club with the player’s departure if Champions League football is not achieved.

It has left Enzo’s position going into the summer uncertain, with the Blues’ vice-captain looking anything but committed to his current employers.
