Manchester United are ready to rival Arsenal for the signing of Ajax wonderkid Mika Godts.

The tricky Belgian winger is enjoying a real breakout season in the Eredivisie this term. Godts has netted 14 goals and provided nine assists in 25 league appearances.

The 20-year-old is poised to make his senior debut for Belgium soon, and it looks increasingly inevitable that he will be on the move after the World Cup, if he makes the final squad for the tournament.

In recent weeks, reports from the Netherlands have claimed that Arsenal have enquired about the exciting wide player, who has earned comparisons to Eden Hazard thanks to his brilliant technical ability.

However, the Gunners are far from the only club to have taken notice of his exploits in Amsterdam. According to The Touchline and confirmed by Sacha Tavolieri, Man Utd have also added Godts to their shortlist of targets.

Man Utd make Godts contact

While the initial report only spoke of interest, Tavolieri asserts that the Red Devils have already made contact with the player's camp to sound out a potential summer transfer.

The Belgian journalist adds that Godts is expected to leave Ajax and that he will be one of the "main attractions" this summer. The previous report claimed that the Eredivisie giants are demanding around €32 million for the youngster.

Such a fee would take the Red Devils' spending on players from the Dutch club to a whopping €226.8m since 2020, including solidarity payments made for players signed from different sides.

Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek were signed directly from Ajax, while the Amsterdam club also received additional funds from deals for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui (both from Bayern) and Andre Onana (from Inter).

Is Godts ready for the Premier League?

While Godts is undeniably a hugely exciting prospect, FootballTransfers' Ajax expert Dylan Ter Laak previously expressed doubts over whether he is ready for the physicality of the Premier League at this stage of his career.

"Mika Godts is a player who likes to dribble a lot," Ter Laak explained last month. "Sometimes he dribbles a bit too long, so he ends up losing the ball. Also, he tends to go on his own a lot more than he should sometimes.

"This season, he has developed very well and started to score a lot more compared to last season. The Premier League, obviously, is known for being quite tough physically. I'm not sure whether he would be a player who could deal with that. Personally, I think LaLiga suits him better."
