Man Utd surprise as Felix Nmecha agreement reached
Manchester United target Felix Nmecha has postponed his "dream" transfer to the Premier League and instead agreed a new long-term contract with Borussia Dortmund.
The former Man City prospect has been frequently linked with a move back to England in recent years. Nmecha was born in Hamburg but grew up in Manchester, where he and his brother Lukas, now at Leeds, were spotted by scouts of the Cityzens.
Both failed to make the grade at the Etihad and eventually moved back to Germany by signing for Wolfsburg. In 2023, Felix joined Borussia Dortmund for a hefty €30 million.
He has been a solid player for the Black and Yellow, which has attracted the attention of clubs in the Premier League. Man Utd and Chelsea have been linked with a potential summer move for the 25-year-old.
A return to England certainly holds appeal, as he openly admitted in January. Speaking to the press ahead of Dortmund's Champions League clash with Tottenham, Nmecha revealed that he "dreams" of playing in the Premier League.
Nmecha extends Dortmund deal
According to Sky Germany, however, Nmecha will not fulfil his ambition of playing for a top English club just yet. That is because he has reached an agreement with Dortmund to sign a new contract.
Described as the club's "hottest commodity," Nmecha has given the green light for a two-year extension and a substantial pay rise that puts him among the best-paid players at the club.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl is said to have stepped up his efforts in talks with Nmecha's new agency in recent days, ultimately resulting in a breakthrough that was satisfactory for both parties. Dortmund, it is claimed, have made significant concessions to the midfielder.
His new contract will run until 2030. A move this summer is therefore out of the question, though if he continues to perform at a high level, clubs will surely come calling again next year.
