Man Utd ready to pay €92m for Premier League superstar
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay €92 million (£80m) for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a St James’ Park exit for several years and he is once again expected to be the subject of significant transfer interest this summer.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola remains a huge admirer of the Newcastle captain, while Man Utd are also eager to tempt the 28-year-old away from Eddie Howe’s side amid their pursuit of a suitable replacement for Casemiro.
The Red Devils’ top target Elliot Anderson has been tipped to complete a move to the Etihad Stadium ahead of the 2026-27 season and they have subsequently identified a number of alternative targets as they look to sign a player capable of featuring alongside Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.
Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Joao Gomes have all been linked with an Old Trafford switch in recent months, while the 13-time Premier League champions are also interested in Newcastle duo Sandro Tonali and Guimaraes.
The latter has even been recommended to the Man Utd hierarchy by Casemiro, as per reports in Spain, and they are now ready to intensify their pursuit of his signature ahead of this summer.
That is according to CaughtOffside, who claim that Man Utd are prepared to pay €92m (£80m) to sign Guimaraes this summer, although Newcastle are reportedly desperate to retain the 28-year-old and are keen to finalise a contract extension agreement before the window opens.
Guimaraes, who boasts an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €80.8m, has just over two years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park and it’s understood that an exit could potentially be on the cards if a suitable offer is submitted.
Analysis: Would Bruno Guimaraes be a good signing for Man Utd?
There is no question that Guimaraes is an excellent footballer and he would undoubtedly improve the level of Man Utd’s first-team squad, but he isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Casemiro.
The Brazilian has been deployed in a slightly more advanced role this season, as showcased by the fact he has 14 goal contributions in the Premier League, with Tonali situated as the deepest midfielder for Newcastle.
With Mainoo not best suited to playing in a No.6 role, Guimaraes would be forced to be the deeper of the two at Man Utd and it’s a role that wouldn’t maximise his immense quality in forward areas.
Landing a true defensive midfielder to replace Casemiro may therefore be wise, especially considering it will likely cost up to €100m to sign Guimaraes.
