Exclusive: Arsenal face Tino Livramento transfer headache
Arsenal could be set for a transfer headache in their pursuit of Newcastle United full-back Valentino Livramento this summer.
The England international has emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of the upcoming transfer window, as exclusively revealed by FootballTransfers, with the Gunners potentially set to sanction the sale of Ben White.
Livramento, who has made 104 appearances for Newcastle since his arrival from Southampton in 2023, is regarded as one of the primary candidates to replace White at the Emirates Stadium, with the Arsenal hierarchy impressed by his development at St James’ Park.
The former Chelsea academy starlet is a regular in Eddie Howe’s preferred starting XI, but he has struggled with injury problems throughout his senior career and he has missed 27 matches due to knee and hamstring issues so far this season.
Despite this, Newcastle legend Chris Waddle is a huge admirer of the defender, although the 65-year-old has admitted his concern at Livramento’s injury record - which could be deterrent for Arsenal.
Valentino Livramento transfer update
When asked about Livramento, Waddle told FootballTransfers on behalf of 10bet: “I think Newcastle will be wanting to keep hold of him. The question mark with Livramento has always been his injuries.
“He doesn't get a knock where he's out for a week and misses one game. It's always that he misses four or five games or two months. That will probably be a concern for a lot of clubs looking at him because he wouldn't be cheap.”
However, despite interest from Arsenal in Livramento, Waddle believes that Newcastle will be under no pressure to sell him, or any of their other stars, this summer.
“Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with leaving, Joelinton going out, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon to Liverpool and Livramento now, with teams looking at him. But, Newcastle are a powerful club and they don't need to sell anybody unless that player knocks on the door and says: ‘I want to go.’
“Newcastle have got no reason to sell anybody. They're in the driving seat. They're going to say to the player: ‘You're playing here unless you put a transfer request in.’ Then it's down to the player and that means the player does want to leave.
“But, the one concern I have for Livramento, who I think is a very good full-back who has pace and is good on the ball, is just his injuries.”
