Como have told Chelsea that it will take something very special to lure Cesc Fabregas away from the Serie A side amid claims that the former Spain midfielder could be Liam Rosenior’s replacement at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior has already come under pressure at Chelsea since replacing Enzo Maresca in January, with the Blues having lost four successive matches.

Numerous names have been put forward as potential replacements for the 41-year-old, but former Blues player Fabregas is one of the favourites given his big reputation as a player and as an exciting young manager.

Como: We’ll fight to keep Fabregas

Fabregas has led Como to fourth in the Serie A table, and with eight matches of the season remaining, there is the very real prospect of Champions League football next season.

But the style this has been achieved with has been especially eye-catching. Aside from leaders Inter, no team in Italy’s top flight has scored more goals than Fabregas’ while their defence has been the hardest to breach, allowing their opponents to net only 22 times.

Understandably, Como’s hierarchy are dead set on retaining a manager they have under contract until 2028 – and they don’t believe that Chelsea represents a better option for their 38-year-old boss currently.

“Given what we can offer him, we're not worried about him leaving us right now,” Como sporting director Carlalberto Ludi told Radio Radio (via Gazzetta dello Sport).

“There's a complete alignment between Cesc's ambitions and those of the club. We're constantly making more resources available to work as best we can. Until something happens that we can't control, we'll move forward together.”

Rosenior fighting for his job

Rosenior was previously involved in a bizarre incident on Thursday, in which a leading media outlet claimed that he had said that finishing in the top four was not Chelsea’s priority.

However, the quotes that were published were rapidly debunked and the offending posts were deleted.

Rosenior’s overall record at Chelsea shows that he has 10 wins from 19 matches, with his side scoring 40 goals in the process.

Scepticism remains over his ability to lead the club in the long term, largely due to his lack of top-level experience as a player or manager. Furthermore, the fact that he was effectively internally promoted from Strasbourg and, therefore, seen as an easy appointment from increasingly unpopular owners, has not helped him build an immediate reputation.

The latest reports indicate that Chelsea are not planning on replacing Rosenior, but pressure is certainly building from the fans.
