Arsenal Transfer News Today: Gunners star wanted in Gordon swap with Lewis-Skelly future in doubt
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Anthony Gordon and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Newcastle demand Martinelli in Gordon swap
Arsenal could offer Gabriel Martinelli as a makeweight in a deal for Anthony Gordon, with the Gunners reportedly pushing hard to sign the Newcastle star.
Gordon’s future has come under doubt with Newcastle on course to miss out on European football for next season and the 25-year-old has attracted attention from Arsenal along with Manchester United and Liverpool.
However, with Gordon still having a long-term contract at St James’ Park, Newcastle have no desire to cash in on their star forward and a report by indykaila claims that the Magpies are looking for Martinelli in exchange if they do consider a sale.
It is stated that Newcastle could make Martinelli the highest paid player on the team although the deal could be complicated due to PSR rules surrounding the values of players swapping clubs.
Odegaard ready to shun interest to sign new Arsenal contract
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard reportedly intends to sign a contract extension at the club, despite rumoured interest from numerous clubs across Europe.
The Norway international has been linked with a sensational move away from north London in recent weeks, with Inter Milan and Juventus among the clubs keeping tabs on his situation, but he has no intention of departing the Emirates Stadium.
Odegaard, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, has just over two years remaining on his existing contract with the Gunners, but he intends to finalise fresh terms with the club over the coming months, as per TEAMtalk.
Intermediaries have reportedly sounded out transfer interest in the 27-year-old, however rumours that Odegaard is looking to leave Arsenal have been emphatically dismissed.
The midfielder is keen to extend his current deal, while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also eager to reach an agreement with Odegaard as he looks to retain the services of his club captain.
Real Madrid want Downman
Real Madrid are eager to repeat the success of Jude Bellingham’s transfer from Borussia Dortmund by targeting the next crop of youngsters and Dowman has subsequently been earmarked as a top target, according to TEAMtalk.
The teenager has caught the eye of Real Madrid officials in recent months, with Archie Gray, Josh Acheampong, Jesse Derry, Ethan Nwaneri, Nico O’Reilly, Mateus Mane and Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of Jude, also on Los Blancos’ radar.
However, despite Real Madrid’s interest in Dowman, the Englishman has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal ahead of his 17th birthday later this year, meaning his deal will become a professional one in December.
Lewis-Skelly could leave Arsenal claims ex-star
Arsenal legend Alan Smith believes that Myles Lewis-Skelly could look to leave the club in the summer after a difficult season with the Gunners.
Lewis-Skelly was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season after a breakout campaign but the 19-year-old has made just one Premier League start this season, prompting doubts over his future.
"It's been a really difficult season for Myles Lewis-Skelly, hasn't it? He's behind two players, really, for the left-back slot," Smith told BestBettingSites.
"If he did get a chance, I'd quite like to see him in midfield. That's his position. Just see how he fares there. He's not the best of defenders, so it suits him better in midfield. He's really creative.
"I think it'll probably be a shop window for him. I think there's every chance he might leave in the summer. We'll see on that."
Hamburg eye discount on permanent Vieira transfer
Hamburg will hold talks with Arsenal over a permanent move for Fabio Vieira after the his loan spell with the club, although they will likely look to negotiate a lower fee for the Portuguese star.
Vieira joined the German outfit on loan last summer, having made just five Premier League starts for Arsenal since his €35m move from Porto in 2022.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed his time in the Bundesliga with four goals and four assists in 19 games and reports in Germany claim that Hamburg are hoping to make the move permanent.
However, despite having a purchase option in the loan deal of €20m, it is believed that Hamburg will look for a fee closer to €10-12m in the hopes that Arsenal are willing to sanction a cut price deal in order to get Vieira’s wages off the books.
