Arsenal forced to agree major summer sale due to Eze and Gyokeres
Arsenal will reportedly be required to sell at least one first-team star this summer in order to balance the books following their significant transfer outlay last year.
The Gunners spent a whopping €294.6 million on seven new permanent players last summer, with Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze among the superstars to arrive, but they are set to pay the price for that activity ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Arsenal’s business in 2025 has helped fire them towards a first Premier League title in 22 years, however they have now been forced to initiate discussions over which first-team player must be sold this summer.
That is according to a bombshell report from The Telegraph, who have revealed that Arsenal will have to sell at least one senior player this summer due to their transfer activity last year.
Mikel Arteta’s side are currently in talks over which player could generate the largest transfer fee, with several stars in the running.
It’s reported that club captain Martin Odegaard is under consideration to depart as he only has two years remaining on his current contract and could be sold for a major profit on the balance sheet as he has been at the club since 2021.
Gabriel Martinelli and Benjamin White are both strong contenders to be sold too, while Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard are also mentioned as potential options due to their contractual situations.
In addition, academy graduates Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly could also be offloaded, partly due to the benefit of ‘pure profit’ sales, although the club would be heavily scrutinised if either player is sacrificed.
Verdict: Who should Arsenal sell this summer?
Selling Nwaneri or Lewis-Skelly would be incredibly foolish given their immense potential, while Havertz is arguably Arsenal’s best centre forward, despite the presence of Gyokeres.
Martinelli is a polarising figure, however he still has quality and Odegaard should be kept unless Arsenal are able to sign a suitable replacement for the Norway international ahead of next season.
As a result, the Gunners should be looking to offload White, Jesus or Trossard this summer, with transfer funds needed to bolster their squad even further before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.
