OFFICIAL: Tottenham sack Thomas Frank after Newcastle loss

Tottenham have officially announced the sacking of head coach Thomas Frank.

The Dane succeeded Ange Postecoglou in the Spurs dugout in June, but he has now been relieved of his duties after just eight months. Frank leaves the North London club in a hugely disappointing 14th in the Premier League, just five points clear of the relegation zone.

On Tuesday, Frank oversaw a 2-1 loss to Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, continuing Spurs' atrocious home form. They have been one of the worst home teams in the Premier League over the past year.

The reigning Europa League champions have yet to win a domestic game in 2026, with their only victories coming against Bundesliga sides Dortmund and Frankfurt in the Champions League.

The win against BVB bought Frank a few additional weeks after it was widely believed that he would be sacked before the game. Ultimately, though, he has been unable to turn Spurs' ailing fortunes around.

Frank sacked by Spurs

Despite being a likeable character, Tottenham fans never warmed to the Dane, making his departure inevitable. The former Brentford boss clearly struggled to cope with the demands of leading a "big" team.

He said the wrong things - such as openly criticising Spurs fans - and fell into preventable PR traps, like drinking out of an Arsenal-branded cup during an away visit to Bournemouth.

Frank's football was bland and the exact opposite of what Tottenham fans expect from their team. Few managers in the club's history have been as unpopular as the 52-year-old.

For weeks, Frank was mercilessly booed by the home crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has now left the club after eight winless Premier League games.

Such has been Spurs' downturn in form that Opta's predictor model gives them a higher chance of suffering relegation (3.95 per cent) than of finishing in the top nine of the Premier League (3.00 per cent).
