Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Arsenal and Man Utd BATTLE, Ronaldo UPDATE, Vitinha CONFIRMATION
Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided some massive updates on the biggest transfer stories from around Europe, including the latest on Sandro Tonali, Cristiano Ronaldo and Vitinha.
Cristiano Ronaldo update
Cristiano Ronaldo has gone on strike in protest against the PIF following Al-Nassr’s lack of transfer activity in January and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a resolution has not yet been reached.
He told his YouTube channel: “Many of you today have been asking me if it is true that Cristiano Ronaldo is back, if it is true that his streak is over, and if this situation between Cristiano and the PIF, which controls some Saudi clubs including Al-Nassr, is over.
“Guys, my answer is that as of today, there is still nothing confirmed in terms of when Cristiano will be back on the pitch. We have to wait for Al-Nassr and we have to wait for Cristiano. They will clarify this situation when they believe it is the right moment.
“As soon as I know something and I can tell you that Cristiano is back, I will come here and tell you that Cristiano is back and he is going to play again. Last week he returned to training, but he did not return to official games. Let us see when Cristiano decides to return.
“As of today, this has still not been communicated by Cristiano or by Al-Nassr, so we have to patiently wait and see the timing of this saga. Remember that the problem is not between Cristiano and Al-Nassr. Cristiano has a very good relationship with the management, the staff, the coach, and the teammates.
“The topic is between the PIF and Cristiano, because Cristiano believes that the issue is at the highest level of management and not specifically about Al-Nassr. This is the real issue at this stage.”
Sandro Tonali interest
Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been heavily linked with a 2026 exit and Romano has confirmed that Arsenal and Man Utd are among the clubs interested in signing him.
“Now let us talk about midfielders, because there are many questions about the situation of Sandro Tonali. It is important to say that there is going to be an important summer for him, probably a huge summer, because around the end of March or April there will be conversations between Tonali’s camp and Newcastle about his future,” Romano said.
“There is a possibility that Sandro Tonali considers a new chapter in his career in summer 2026. There is interest from Italy, with Juventus dreaming of Sandro Tonali, but this would be very expensive and complicated. There is also Premier League interest, with Arsenal interested for sure, and Manchester United also appreciating the player.
“Many of you are asking me about the links between Sandro Tonali and Man Utd. There is appreciation from Man Utd, but he is not the only midfielder on their list. What I am hearing is that United have several names, and before deciding who they want to sign, they need clarity on whether they will play Champions League football and who the manager will be.
“Before Man Utd decide this is the midfielder we want, we have to wait. Tonali is appreciated, Arsenal also want to add a midfielder in the summer transfer window, and this is the plan of the club as of today.”
Khephren Thuram to leave Juventus?
Meanwhile, Juventus star Khephren Thuram may also be on the move following a standout campaign with the Turin giants.
Romano admitted: “If we continue with midfielders, I keep mentioning the name of Khephren Thuram, because Jorge Mendes is involved in the situation. There is interest from Real Madrid and from several top Premier League clubs, so it is going to be a big battle between Spanish and English sides.
“For me, this is going to be a huge summer and a huge battle. It will not be easy to sign him, because an offer of €40 to €45 million may not be enough. It is going to take bigger money, and he will be a big part of the conversations in the coming months.”
Vitinha likely to stay at PSG
In addition to Thuram, Real Madrid have also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain superstar Vitinha, however a deal is unlikely to materialise, as per Romano.
“Finally, I want to mention another name because many of you asked me about one of the best players in the world in his position, which is Vitinha. He was fantastic last season for Paris Saint-Germain and is doing fantastic once again this season,” the football transfer news expert said.
“There is no doubt that Vitinha is one of the best midfielders in the world, and it is normal to have plenty of links. When you ask me about Vitinha and Real Madrid, it is clear that Real Madrid need to do something in midfield, with plans for summer 2026 to rebuild in defence and midfield.
“Obviously, Real Madrid, like every top club in the world, appreciate the fantastic skills of Vitinha. But in terms of reality, the situation at PSG is very clear. He has a long contract, a big salary, and PSG see Vitinha as a crucial part of their project.
“Vitinha’s development is also down to the work of Luis Enrique, but do not forget Luis Campos, who trusted him and decided to invest important money when there was criticism and expectations were not high.
“Now Vitinha is one of the very best in the world, PSG believe in him, and they do not want to lose him, so any move would be extremely complicated and very expensive to even consider.”
