Glasner sends clear Man Utd transfer message: 'We will do the deal'
Departing Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has admitted that Manchester United target Jean-Philippe Mateta could be sold at the right price this month.
The Austrian was the protagonist of one of the most remarkable press conferences in Crystal Palace history on Friday. Not only did Glasner confirm that he is leaving the club at the end of the season and that Marc Guehi is on the verge of joining Man City, he also addressed the future of his star striker.
Although his form has dipped recently, Mateta has been quite sensational for Palace since Glasner's arrival in February 2024. This has put him on the radar of various European giants, including the likes of Man Utd and Juventus.
No move materialised in the summer, but interest has persisted. Sky Sports recently confirmed that Man Utd continue to monitor the Frenchman despite signing Benjamin Sesko in the summer.
Mateta has 18 months left on his contract. Palace are naturally keen to extend, but the 28-year-old is expected to explore his options, especially with the departures of Glasner and Guehi now confirmed.
Glasner: Mateta will be sold at the right price
Speaking at his explosive press conference, Glasner admitted that Mateta could be sold this month if the right offer materialises and if he expresses a desire to pursue the opportunity.
"There will be a price where Crystal Palace say '18 months left in his contract, we will do the deal if JP wants," Glasner explained, before adding: "If nobody pays this price, then JP will stay."
This situation will be one to watch going forward, given that Man Utd are interested in both Glasner and Mateta. With the Austrian a frontrunner for the Old Trafford job, it is not inconceivable that the Red Devils make a move for the star striker.
Moreover, signing Mateta or another striker this month would allow Man Utd to part ways with Joshua Zirkzee. Roma have been pushing for a deal for weeks, and are offering a lucrative €40 million package, but the Red Devils will only sell if a replacement is found.
