Man Utd are planning a major signing that could see Amad Diallo lose his place in the first XI.

The Red Devils are targeting Everton star Iliman Ndiaye for a summer transfer, according to TeamTalk.

The Senegal international has four goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.

The 25-year-old winger also scored the winning goal for his country in its 1-0 win over Mali in the African Cup of Nations quarterfinal.

Man Utd see the signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as proof that signing top players from smaller Premier League clubs is an effective strategy, and the club’s hierarchy is willing to sanction another deal in that vein with Ndiaye.

Amad’s place in danger due to Ndiaye deal?

The player whose place is most at risk in the event of Ndiaye joining Man Utd is Amad Diallo.

With two goals and two assists in the Premier League, the club may want to bring in a more productive player for the right wing.

Amad has spent most of the season as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s system, but Michael Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 allows the 23-year-old Ivory Coast international to play in his favoured position on the wing.

Having only made two appearances since returning from an individually successful AFCON where he scored three goals and provided an assist, there is still plenty of time for Amad to seize the first-choice right-wing place for himself.

How do Amad and Ndiaye compare?

Ndiaye has been the more effective player this season, likely due to him playing in his natural position while Amad largely has not.

The Senegalese attacker has four goals on 3.44 expected goals (xG), while Amad has scored below expected with two goals on 3.9 xG.

Amad has missed four big chances, but many of his attacking and possession metrics — including accurate passes per 90 minutes, shots per 90, and total chances created — are greater than those of Ndiaye, likely because Man Utd play a more attacking style than Everton under David Moyes.

Ndiaye would add Premier League-proven quality to the team, but Man Utd fans would be right to wonder what it means for Amad, who scored an impressive 11 goals with eight assists in 43 appearances across all competitions last season.
