Liverpool transfer takes ‘significant’ step forward as €6m problem solved
Liverpool have been told Federico Chiesa is willing to make a huge sacrifice to push through his dream move to Juventus in a switch that could be the catalyst to Antonio Nusa arriving at Anfield.
Chiesa has been clear that his preference is to move back to Serie A after 18 tricky months at Anfield, during which he has struggled to win the faith of manager Arne Slot.
The Italy international star has featured 35 times for the Reds, scoring four goals, yet he has never managed to establish himself as a starter, despite being the Dutchman’s only signing in the summer of 2024 when he joined from Juventus in a deal worth €12 million.
Now Chiesa is pushing to return to his homeland, with Gazzetta dello Sport indicating that he’s doing everything in his power to get a deal off the ground.
The Italian source reports that the 28-year-old has made it clear to Juventus that he is willing to reduce his €6m-per-year salary in order for a deal to be completed.
“It’s like: reach an agreement between the clubs and my salary won’t be a problem,” the source states, describing the move on Chiesa’s part as a “significant step”.
Why does Chiesa want to leave Liverpool?
Chiesa’s desire to move back to Juventus is one motivated by the opportunity to play more. He has been left frustrated with just 529 minutes on the field this season.
In particular, he feels he has unfinished business with Juventus, who he did not want to leave 18 months ago.
Liverpool’s Chiesa stance
Liverpool do not want to sell Chiesa at this stage due to a shortage of options in Slot’s front line caused largely by an injury to Alexander Isak.
However, the Dutchman underlined that the Euro 2020 star is unlikely to have a major role in his plans as he picked Cody Gakpo ahead of him in the recent 2-2 draw with Fulham.
With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €20m, the Premier League champions could make a healthy profit on the Italian.
Equally, this indicates that the door could be opened for Chiesa to leave should the Reds find themselves a replacement.
Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa, and if progress is made in that deal, Chiesa’s transfer back to Juventus could really accelerate rapidly.
