Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has confirmed that contract extension talks have taken place amid rumours he is close to signing a new deal at Anfield.
The Hungary international has two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract with Arne Slot’s side and his representatives are locked in negotiations over fresh terms with the reigning Premier League champions.

Szoboszlai has been an integral player for the Reds since his arrival from RB Leipzig in 2023, and he is currently their sixth-most valuable star with an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €79.1 million.
The 25-year-old has already racked up over 2,600 minutes of action across all competitions so far this season, and he has now confirmed that talks over a new contract have taken place.
“Of course I am happy here but you know how football works and that is something everybody has to take into account,” Szoboszlai told reporters (via The Athletic).
“There is always progress but no decision has been made. I’ll just keep on going every week, every training session, giving my best for the team and for the fans.
“Let’s see what is going to happen in the future. There has been talks but for sure not any decision has been made.”
Liverpool are understood to be keen to reward Szoboszlai with an improved contract, and he is reportedly regarded by the Anfield hierarchy as a potential successor to Virgil van Dijk as club captain.
Szoboszlai has scored six goals and provided five assists so far this term, but he missed a penalty for just the second time in his career during the Reds’ 1-1 draw against Burnley on Saturday.

In addition to finalising a contract extension with Szoboszlai, the Liverpool hierarchy are also eager to strengthen the squad at Slot’s disposal with a new central defender and a new winger.
However, the Reds are currently expected to wait until this summer before dipping back into the market, despite several high-profile injury issues at the club.
Furthermore, top target Marc Guehi completed a permanent move to Manchester City on Monday, while RB Leipzig are expected to demand a fee in excess of €100m to sell Yan Diomande, who is being closely watched by Liverpool scouts.
