Salah has dominated the headlines from the perspective of the Anfield club over the course of the last month, with the Egypt attacker having launched a scathing attack on the club after repeatedly being left on the bench by Arne Slot.

The 33-year-old has claimed that promises made to him in the summer had been broken, leading to serious rumours that he could depart for the Saudi Pro League.

His relationship with Slot appeared to have totally ruptured, despite a return of five goals in 20 games signalling a downturn in his form, which had led to high-profile criticism from former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports.

Interest in Salah has cooled from Saudi Arabia, changing the course of his future, The i Paper reports.

A new possibility as opened up for the winger, who could return to one of his former clubs.

La Repubblica reports that Roma are considering a deal that would take Salah back to Serie A. However, any move from the Giallorossi would only come in the summer as they have already filled their quota of non-EU players.

Liverpool ‘close’ to wrapping up €40m Ordonez deal

Liverpool are making strides in the transfer market at the other end of the field, with Club Brugge centre-back Joel Ordonez set to hook up with Slot’s side imminently.

The Reds have looked short at the back following a serious injury to Giovanni Leoni, and with Ibrahima Konate heading towards free agency in the summer, they have moved swiftly to complete a deal worth €40m for a player Chelsea had been extensively tracking.

Ordonez, 21, is “close” to completing his switch to Anfield, according to Bolavip.

No expense will be spared in the deal, with Liverpool set to triple his salary and splash out a sizeable fee on a player with an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €33m.

The Ecuador international will add youth to a Liverpool backline that has looked below its best this season, despite keeping a clean sheet with Leeds on New Year’s Day in a scoreless Premier League encounter.
