Tottenham in crisis as Cristian Romero speaks out
Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristiano Romero has lashed out at the leadership of the club following the 3-2 Premier League loss at Bournemouth on Wednesday, claiming they “only show up” in good times to “tell a few lies”.
Spurs crashed to a dramatic defeat on the South Coast that leaves them 14th in the standings and leaves manager Thomas Frank under increasing pressure.
Mathys Tel had the Londoners ahead after five minutes before the hosts struck twice before the break. Joao Palhinha’s effort late in the second period seemed to have salvaged a point for the guests but Antoine Semenyo struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner that has plunged Spurs into crisis.
What did Cristian Romero say?
Taking to Instagram, the Tottenham captain posted:
"Apologies to all fans of you who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be. We are responsible, there's no doubt about that. But we will keep facing up to it and trying to turn the situation around, for ourselves and for the club.
“At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don't - as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies.
“We'll stay here, working, sticking together and giving our all to turn things around. Especially at times like this, keeping quiet, working harder and moving forward all together, is part of football.
“All together, it will be easier."

Romero’s words have been endorsed by fellow Tottenham players Richarlison and Pedro Porro, both of whom replied to the post, which has since been edited to remove “to tell a few lies”.
Brazil international star Richarlison replied with an image of clapping hands while Porro posted in Spanish: “Amen. Keep going brother. We have a lot of battles left.”
Tottenham face in-form Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
