Liam Rosenior issues Chelsea transfer demand
Incoming Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has reportedly asked the club to complete the signing of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
Rosenior, 41, is currently the head coach of Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg and he has emerged as the leading contender to be appointed as the Blues’ new manager following Enzo Maresca’s departure on New Year’s Day.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County defender is expected to be announced as Chelsea’s new boss next week and he has already outlined the one player he would like the club to target following his arrival.
That is according to transfer reporter IndyKaila, who posted on X: “Liam Rosenior has asked for Marc Guehi. This is from a first-class source who [is] very well connected with Chelsea.”
The England international spent 14 years at Stamford Bridge before being sold to Crystal Palace on a permanent deal in 2021 and he has been linked with a sensational return to the club on a number of occasions since his departure.
Guehi has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best defenders during his time at Selhurst Park and he is expected to leave the Eagles on a Bosman deal when his current contract expires at the end of June.
Liverpool are considered to be the frontrunners for his signature this year, after their proposed deal for the 25-year-old collapsed last summer, but Rosenior is reportedly eager for Chelsea to hijack a transfer to Anfield amid the Blues’ pursuit of a new central defender.
Will Liam Rosenior become the next Chelsea manager?
FootballTransfers understands that Rosenior is set to be appointed as the new Chelsea head coach, although he was keen to play down speculation of a Stamford Bridge switch following Strasbourg’s 1-1 draw versus OGC Nice on Saturday.
“I haven’t discussed anything at this point,” Rosenior told reporters. “There’s nothing concrete in these rumours. They’re just rumours. What will be, will be.
“It's a very beautiful city, a great club, with great fans. I have loved everything. The players were incredible. I really want the best for this club. I don't know if this is my last match. In life, you never know.”
