Arsenal to receive MILLIONS from surprise transfer
Arsenal are set for a surprise January windfall due to Nuno Tavares' impending move away from Lazio.
The Portugal international left the Gunners for the Italian capital on an initial loan deal in the summer of 2024 and hit like a bomb. Tavares was sensational for Lazio in his first season at the club, naturally prompting the Serie A giants to make his stay permanent.
Despite Tavares having been a flop at Arsenal, the North London club did not make much of a loss on him. They paid €8 million to sign him from Benfica in 2021, but received a €1.15m loan free from Nottingham Forest in 2023 and then another €6m from Lazio this summer.
Now, Arsenal will actually turn this small loss into a profit because Tavares is expected to leave Lazio imminently. Sky Germany and Sky Sports both report that the left-back will be on the move this month.
Lazio, who are about to sell former Gunner Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce for €29m, are in for plenty of churn this window after being hit with a transfer ban previously. They need to make sales to be able to bring in new players.
Arsenal to receive millions from Tavares sale
Tavares, who has been underwhelming this term compared to last season, is another player who will be offloaded to help balance the books. He has unnamed suitors from Saudi Arabia, but he could also make a surprise return to the Premier League.
Regardless of where he ends up, this is good news for Arsenal as they stand to benefit handsomely from his next move. When they sold the 25-year-old to Lazio, they made sure to include a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
Given that Lazio will surely demand more than the €6m they paid for the marauding full-back, Arsenal are bound to earn several million euros from his proposed transfer.
At this stage, it is unclear where exactly Tavares will end up, but it seems all but set in stone that he will depart Lazio this month and help Arsenal turn a small loss into a potentially sizeable profit.
