After advancing on a move for Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ajax are also targeting Arsenal midfielder Christian Norgaard, according to a report.

The Dutch giants are in the midst of a massive January window following a disappointing summer. New director Jordi Cruyff is trying to rectify the mistakes of the last transfer period.

To that end, Ajax have held advanced talks with Arsenal over a deal for Ukraine international Oleksandr Zinchenko. The deal was said to be close already last week, but then it stalled.

Initial discussions centred around a loan deal, but with just six months remaining on Zinchenko's contract, the formula was changed to a permanent deal. The versatile full-back, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, has apparently already been in Amsterdam for his medical.

Interim head coach Fred Grim recently stated that he is hopeful the deal will be completed this week, and reports do suggest that a full agreement is now close. However, Zinchenko isn't the only Arsenal star Ajax are targeting.

Ajax want Norgaard

According to CaughtOffside, Ajax have also "launched a major winter offensive" for Gunners midfielder Christian Norgaard. A summer signing, the Dane has predictably struggled for game time at the Emirates.

The 31-year-old has played fewer than 600 minutes this season, making just three appearances in the Premier League and four in the Champions League. As a result, a host of suitors have emerged.

Despite being so excited to join Arsenal in the summer, Norgaard accepts that it was perhaps a mistake. He is open to a move to Amsterdam as he would become a key player for the Eredivisie giants.

Numerous clubs from the Bundesliga and Serie A also hold an interest in the veteran, who is expected to cost up to €17 million. This means that a permanent deal may not be easy to pull off for Ajax.

The Dutch outfit need to carefully manage their finances, and spending €17m on a 31-year-old would come with a significant risk.
