Jacquet picks between Chelsea and Liverpool as transfer 'trend' revealed
Jeremy Jacquet’s transfer to Chelsea might have stalled, but the Rennes centre-back continues to prioritise a move to Stamford Bridge as interest steps up from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Rennes are fighting to retain the 20-year-old and have put a hefty asking price of around €65-70 million on the central defender.
Chelsea have so far only offered €50m, with the Ligue 1 side thus far unmoved by the offer – but according to Sky Sports, talks between the teams remain ongoing.
Jacquet can only be unlocked with ‘incredible offer’
Jacquet continues to push for a transfer to Chelsea, but interest from Bayern and Liverpool has emerged as alternative destinations for the young Frenchman.
According to reports from Ouest France, though, a deal is unlikely to be found.
“It would take an incredible offer, perhaps around €70m, which isn’t the current trend,” it is reported.
“Chelsea are primarily focused on securing the player for next summer because there is competition, notably from Liverpool.”
Fabrizio Romano on Jacquet to Chelsea
This information matches that provided by Fabrizio Romano, who detailed the position of the deal on YouTube.
“Chelsea remain absolutely in the conversation for this talented French defender from Rennes. It's a big battle. Trust me, all these clubs are talking to the player's camp and talking to Rennes to understand what they can do,” he said.
“Chelsea made progress two weeks ago on the player's side in terms of numbers for the contract, Chelsea are already in advanced conversations, but not yet with Rennes. Rennes want to keep the player in this January window and let him go in the summer.
“Liverpool are trying, Chelsea are trying and Bayern are trying, but only for the summer. For Bayern, Jacquet is an opportunity, as was Marc Guehi, because they want to replace Kim Min-jae, who could probably leave the club in the summer transfer window.
“Chelsea and Liverpool would love to do the business now, but Rennes insists on selling the player for the summer, not for January.”
Chelsea’s other options
Chelsea are looking at alternative centre-backs, according to Sky Sports, which mentions that Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi and Como’s Jacobo Ramon have both emerged as transfer possibilities this month.
Bournemouth are said to be “extremely reluctant” to allow Senesi to depart, even if he is out of contract at the end of the season.
Indeed, it is hinted that Jacquet is the top option for Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior.
