Trent Alexander-Arnold may burn Liverpool one more time with academy transfer
Trent Alexander-Arnold may not be finished when it comes to burning his boyhood club, Liverpool.
It was revealed that the right-back brought 15-year-old Liverpool academy prospect Joshua Abe, who is advised by Alexander-Arnold’s brother, to the Bernabeu to watch Los Blancos’ 2-0 win over Sevilla, per Guillermo Rai.
Abe also took a photo by the pitch with the Alexander-Arnold brothers, and he took another one with Vinicius Junior while holding up a signed Real Madrid shirt.
In five U18 Premier League games this season, the right-winger has two goals and two assists, which puts him tied for fifth on the team in goals and tied for fourth in assists.
Real Madrid’s youth movement
In recent years, Real Madrid has pivoted from its famed Galacticos model of the 2000s and 2010s in favor of chasing more young talent.
The club signed current key players Vinicius, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Eder Militao, Arda Guler, and Aurelien Tchouameni in their late teens or early 20s.
Dean Huijsen, Endrick, and Franco Mastantuono also joined for fees of over €40 million over the past two years.
Los Blancos have the second-youngest average age at 25.8 years, trailing only FC Barcelona at 25.2.
TAA vs. LFC
This development with Abe will likely be received poorly by Liverpool fans.
Alexander-Arnold received a mixed reception ahead of his departure late last season.
Some fans thought he had earned a departure on his terms after winning everything possible with his boyhood club, while others believed he should have left in a way that would have seen Liverpool receive a transfer fee.
If the star right-back gets his current club to bring Abe from England to Spain, it may well reignite the fury that filled parts of Anfield late in the 2024/25 season.
