Man City to complete Antoine Semenyo signing 'within 48 hours'
Manchester City are expected to wrap up the signing of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo before the January window opens.
The Ghana international is likely to be the most expensive and most high-profile player to move in the upcoming window. Semenyo has been one of the best performers in the Premier League over the past two seasons, and he is set to be rewarded with a move to an elite club.
Despite his stunning form, Semenyo hasn't quite had the options many would have expected. Liverpool made an enquiry in November but ultimately decided against making a January move. Arsenal, similarly, would only have made an offer in the summer.
Tottenham pulled out of the race because they felt Semenyo had no interest in joining, while Chelsea ignited and then swiftly extinguished their interest in the player all in the space of less than 24 hours last week.
As a result, it came down to the Manchester clubs, Man City and Man Utd. Last week, it emerged that Semenyo had opted to pick the former as his preferred destination due to his desire to win silverware.
Man City to complete Semenyo deal quickly
Accordingly, Man City are now in the process of formalising the arrival of Semenyo, whose €74 million release clause needs to be triggered within the first 10 days of January.
However, Ben Jacobs reports that Bournemouth fully expect this deal to be wrapped up before the window even officially opens. Semenyo has already agreed personal terms with the Cityzens.
On Monday evening, Jacobs revealed that Bournemouth and Man City had engaged in talks over the payment terms of that €74m fee. The positive nature of the discussions gave rise to the belief that this deal will be completed within 48 hours.
Bournemouth are hoping to be able to have Semenyo available for Tuesday evening's clash with Chelsea, but there is, of course, an awareness that an injury could jeopardise the deal with Man City.
