Man City alerted as door opens in record transfer for 'complete package' Premier League wonderkid
Manchester City have received encouragement to make a record transfer for a long-term target after the player opened the door to a big money move next summer.
City are expected to invest heavily in their squad once again next summer, with no resolution in sight for ongoing case which has seen more than 115 charges for alleged violation of Premier League spending rules.
While Pep Guardiola has hinted that he would be interested in signing the likes of Rodrygo from Real Madrid, City’s biggest priority could be in defence, particularly at right-back, where they have often fielded make-shift options.
Matheus Nunes has become Guardiola’s starting right-back this season despite preferring to play in midfield, while centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov has also spent time there, with City still searching for a long-term specialist in the role.
One of the club’s top targets is believed to be Tino Livramento but Newcastle have insisted the 23-year-old is not for sale and have instead been looking to tie him down to a new contract.
However, the Daily Mail report that Livramento has stalled on signing a new deal at St James’ Park amid City’s interest and will only consider talks at the end of the season.
Livramento is still happy at Newcastle and has not pushed for an exit or suggested he is against extending his current deal, which expires in 2028, however the England international is looking to keep his options open and see how his season progresses with the Magpies.
Man City willing to break the bank for ‘complete package’ Livramento
Livramento has emerged as one of the most consistent and impressive full-backs in the Premier League since his €37 million transfer from Southampton in 2023, having regularly filled in on both flanks for Newcastle during his time at the club.
Injuries have prevented Livramento from adding to his three England caps in recent months but the former Chelsea youngster is a strong candidate to be named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.
Newcastle have no desire to sell Livramento and would likely demand a fee that would eclipse the €68m world transfer record for a full-back, which Paris Saint-Germain paid for Achraf Hakimi in 2021.
Guardiola is reported to consider Livramento as ‘the complete package’ according to TEAMTalk, and City would be willing to offer more than €74m for him, while potentially also leveraging Newcastle’s long-term interest in James Trafford to sweeten the deal.
However, Eddie Howe’s side have not given up hope on convincing Livramento to renew his contract and are willing to reward him for his progress by making him one of the club’s top earners to tie him down for the peak of his career.
