Liverpool receive nightmare Guehi update as Real Madrid told star will sign
Bayern are increasingly confident that Dayot Upamecano will sign a new contract, which could have a massive knock-on effect on the future of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who is being chased by Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The England defender is expected to be one of the protagonists of the upcoming January and summer transfer windows. On 1 January, Guehi will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with clubs outside of Britain.
Alternatively, he could wait until the summer and hold talks with English clubs before making a final decision on his next move. What is already clear, though, is that Guehi will leave Crystal Palace.
Liverpool attempted to sign him in the summer, and they could revisit this deal in January. Given how poor their defence has been this term, supporters are hoping that they will try to wrap up a deal in the winter, even if it means paying a fee for a player who could cost nothing in the summer.
Guehi is not just fielding interest from the reigning Premier League champions, however. He has also received expressions of appeal from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern.
Upamecano to influence Guehi future
For Bayern, although face-to-face talks with his agent have already taken place, Guehi will only become a viable option if Dayot Upamecano decides to leave the club on a Bosman deal in the summer.
Their number one priority is extending the Frenchman's contract as he has been in outstanding form this season, and it seems that confidence is growing in Munich. Honorary president Uli Hoeness has now voiced his belief that Upamecano 'will extend.'
This is bad news for Real Madrid as Upamecano has become a top target for the turmoil-stricken capital club following their decision to end their pursuit of Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate.
If Los Blancos were indeed to miss out on the Frenchman, they would likely go all-in on Guehi instead, which in turn would be worrying for Liverpool, who lost top defensive target Dean Huijsen and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Spanish giants in the summer.
