Manchester City are formulating a plan to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a blockbuster 2026 move.

Third in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola has his sights set on the England international midfielder, with the City boss said to be “obsessed” over the 23-year-old.

Manchester United have notably been linked with a move for the central midfielder, but it appears that their neighbours are desperate to beat them to him.

Sky Sport Switzerland reports that City are “in love” with Anderson, with Hugo Viana having watched the Forest star “more than 10 times” this season.

The former Newcastle star, meanwhile, has told his agent and those close to him that he is prioritising a move to the Etihad club.

But Man City have been warned there is a long way to go before any transfer is completed.

Elliot Anderson’s huge asking price

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has slapped a €115 million (£100m) price tag on the player.

While it’s not made clear what price Man City value him at, Forest’s price point is said to be “far higher” than the title hopefuls are willing to pay.

Anderson’s price tag is substantially more than he is worth, according to FootballTransfers’ algorithm, which suggests he has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €61.7m – a career-high figure.

The report, meanwhile, adds that any move will only be possible after the 2026 World Cup.

The right fit for City?

Anderson would be a good fit for City, according to data analytics experts SciSports, whose Career Advice tool gives the Manchester club a Club Fit score of 72. This is based around various factors, including development opportunities, playing time, style and formation.

The England star is seen as a solid fit all round for City, but there are concerns that he would not get the type of playing time he would wish.

Anderson, therefore, has to consider if he is willing to risk falling into the trap that the likes of Jack Grealish have stumbled into before, whereby they star at another Premier League team but can’t make the grade under Guardiola’s guidance.

SciSports suggests that Anderson’s ideal move would be abroad, with Napoli (84), Atletico Madrid (83) and AC Milan (80) scoring the best figures in terms of Club Fit.
