Five Liverpool players who could leave in January
Liverpool have endured a torrid opening few months of the 2025-26 campaign and Arne Slot has been heavily linked with being sacked amid their current run of results.
The Reds are languishing down in 10th place in the Premier League table and they are set for a fairly busy winter window as they look to save their season, with incomings and outgoings both expected.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through five players who could leave Liverpool during the January transfer window.
Mohamed Salah
The Mohamed Salah saga is expected to rumble on for the next few weeks, with the Egypt star embroiled in a public bust-up with Arne Slot and the Liverpool hierarchy.
After being benched for three consecutive Premier League matches, Salah claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club and he was subsequently dropped from the matchday squad entirely for Liverpool’s win over Inter Milan in midweek.
When he returns from international duty with Egypt at AFCON, Salah is expected to discuss his future at Liverpool, with a mid-season exit certainly on the cards.
Ibrahima Konate
Ibrahima Konate has reportedly rejected three contract extension offers from Liverpool and the club are therefore considering a January sale in order to avoid losing him on a Bosman deal next summer.
The Frenchman has been a regular alongside Virgil van Dijk since his arrival from RB Leipzig, but his form has tailed off this season and Liverpool are desperate to land Marc Guehi as his replacement.
However, talk of a January transfer has died down slightly in recent weeks following confirmation that Real Madrid have withdrawn from the race to sign him.
Federico Chiesa
Federico Chiesa has impressed whenever he has played so far this campaign, however Slot has largely been reluctant to use the Italy winger.
As a result, a return to Serie A has been widely mooted and several clubs are eyeing a potential January swoop for the 28-year-old amid his current status at Anfield.
It’s reported that Chiesa is keen to prove himself at Liverpool, but AC Milan, Inter and Roma are all interested in a deal, and he could consider a mid-season transfer in order to boost his chances of playing a key role for Italy at next summer’s World Cup if they secure qualification through the play-offs.
Wataru Endo
Wataru Endo was a key player during his debut season at Liverpool, under Jurgen Klopp, but he has firmly fallen down the pecking order since the appointment of Slot.
The Japan international only started one Premier League match across the entire 2024-25 campaign, while he has racked up just 242 minutes of action across all competitions so far this term.
A January exit therefore appears to be a possibility, especially as he will be aiming for a place in Japan’s starting XI at the 2026 World Cup.
Rhys Williams
Rhys Williams was handed a major role in the Liverpool first-team during the latter stages of the 2020-21 season, amid an injury crisis at Anfield, but his career with the Reds has nosedived ever since.
Loan spells at Swansea City, Blackpool, Aberdeen and Port Vale followed, while he spent the 2024-25 season in League Two with Morecambe.
Williams returned to Liverpool this summer, but he has only appeared in one senior matchday squad this season and the Reds will be keen to sanction a January sale if possible, with his contract due to expire in July.
