Maresca to blame as Chelsea wonderkid makes exit request
Tyrique George is ready to leave Chelsea during the upcoming January transfer window amid his lack of game time so far this season.
The England U21 international featured frequently during Chelsea’s Europa Conference League campaign last term, however he has fallen down the pecking order following the club’s summer transfer business and he now wants to leave Stamford Bridge this winter.
George has scored three goals and provided one assist in 10 appearances across competitions so far this season, but he is yet to start a Premier League game in 2025-26 and he hasn’t been included in Chelsea’s matchday squad in their last six English top flight fixtures.
Summer signings Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao Willian have all usurped George in the pecking order, while Pedro Neto remains Enzo Maresca’s most trusted winger.
Meanwhile, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu have all been favoured in a centre forward role since the latter was recalled from a short loan spell at Sunderland and the former returned from a hamstring injury.
Delap’s recent dislocated shoulder may allow George to feature in the Premier League over the festive period, however he is still eager to leave his boyhood club in 2026, as per TEAMtalk.
Tyrique George to leave Chelsea?
It’s reported that George is ready to leave Chelsea when the January window opens as he is growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of game time this season.
The Englishman has averaged a goal contribution every 112 minutes this term, but Maresca has been reluctant to use the Chelsea academy graduate, despite the underwhelming recent form of Delap, Pedro and Gittens.
TEAMtalk report that Fulham are still eager to sign George, after a Deadline Day deal collapsed this summer, and fellow Premier League clubs Everton and Leeds are keeping close tabs on his situation too.
Southampton are also interested in signing the 19-year-old, amid their bid to achieve promotion back to the top flight, while Chelsea are open to sending him to their sister club Strasbourg, with a buy-back clause likely to be inserted into a potential deal.
