Chelsea told price after receiving green light to complete striker signing
Chelsea have been told that they may have to pay up to €30 million to secure the signing of Marseille striker Robinio Vaz.
The French youngster has surprisingly seen his future plunged into uncertainty. On Tuesday, it was revealed that Marseille are willing to listen to offers for the 18-year-old in January.
This stance is likely informed by the Ligue 1 giants' need to balance the books, having made a loss every year since Frank McCourt's takeover in 2016. Marseille are also open to the exits of highly-rated midfielder Darryl Bakola and England international Angel Gomes.
In November, it was reported that Chelsea had made contact with the entourage of Vaz to sound out the possibility of a future move after the young forward enjoyed a brilliant start to the season.
Used as a super sub by Roberto de Zerbi, Vaz scored four goals and added two assists in the opening stages of the season. However, his recent form has left a lot to be desired, and he has been without a goal since October.
Chelsea learn Vaz price tag
The teenager's potential January availability will have piqued the interest of quite a few clubs, but it has now been made clear that signing the prospect won't be cheap.
According to Foot Mercato, Marseille are demanding between €25 million and €30m for the 18-year-old. This is a significant premium on his current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €8.3m.
With a price tag like that, only a club like Chelsea may be willing to take a punt on the promising striker, and the Blues could certainly use another centre-forward option.
Summer signing Liam Delap has suffered a couple of nasty injuries and has yet to score a single goal in the Premier League. His luck again deserted him as Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Bournemouth on Tuesday.
