Garnacho drops subtle Amorim dig with cold response to Man Utd exit
There appears to be no love lost between Alejandro Garnacho and Manchester United after the Chelsea winger gave a short response when asked about leaving his former club.
Garnacho joined Chelsea during the summer for €46 million after being told by Ruben Amorim that he would never play for United again following a disagreement between the pair.
The 21-year-old was ordered to train with the reserves and left Old Trafford for domestic rivals Chelsea despite once being considered one of the brightest youngsters to ever play for United.
Speaking to national media for the first time since his move, Garnacho was asked whether he had any regrets over his United exit, to which he bluntly replied: ‘No’.
When asked as a follow-up if he was sad as to how his time at United ended, Garnacho again replied: ‘No’.
The youngster eventually opened up over his move, saying: “I came here to play my football, to show people the player I am. Sometimes in life, you have to change things to maybe take a step forward or to improve as a player. It was the right moment, and also the right club, so it was an easy decision.”
Garnacho praises Maresca impact after Man Utd dream collapse
Garnacho joined United as a 16-year-old and developed into one of the club’s key players after breaking into the side as a promising youngster.
The Argentine international missed just four Premier League games across the last two seasons for United, scoring 13 goals in that time, but he came under fire last year for inconsistent displays and petulant behaviour.
The situation reached a breaking point after Garnacho was dropped for the Europa League final, leading to him voicing his frustration after the match and prompting Amorim to exile him from the squad.
Garnacho eventually joined Chelsea after months of negotiation and the winger admitted his joy at working with Enzo Maresca after a breakdown in his relationship with Amorim, saying: “The most important thing is confidence. He (Maresca) speaks with me every week.
"We are going to get better, me as a player and the team together, with time. We started the season three months ago so it’s building confidence.”
