There were fears of a layoff that would rule out the Slovenian for months.

But the Manchester Evening News says that he could return as early as December 8 against Wolves.

Zirkzee to leave Man Utd

This news means that United will almost certainly sanction the sale or loan with obligation to buy of Zirkzee in January.

United were waiting to see that Sesko would be back by the new year before making a decision on whether to grant Zirkzee’s wish to leave.

Roma are considered favourites to sign the Dutchman, having already started talks for the player.

Zirkzee has played just 90 minutes of football for Man Utd this season and wants to leave in order to advance his career and to give him a chance of going to the World Cup with Netherlands next summer.

Aside from Roma, West Ham, Sevilla and Como have also been heavily linked.

Zirkzee joined Man Utd in the summer of 2024 in a €42.5 million move from Bologna.

The 23-year-old Zirkzee was one of the standout players in Serie A in the 2023-24 season, leading the club to historic qualification to the Champions League.

He was often compared to former Milan and Barcelona star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, he has struggled to show that form at Man Utd and has been criticised for a lack of goal threat.

In total, Zirkzee has made 54 appearances for Utd and scored seven goals.
