Chelsea are reportedly “increasingly keen” on finalising a deal for Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, who is firmly on Manchester United’s transfer radar.

The 22-year-old, who has established himself as a regular starter for the England national team this season, has emerged as a top transfer target for Man Utd amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder in 2026.

Ruben Amorim’s side have identified Anderson as a possible marquee signing, alongside the likes of Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton, and they are expected to accelerate talks to sign him over the next few months.

However, Chelsea have emerged as potential challengers in recent weeks and they are now “increasingly keen” to bring the England star to Stamford Bridge next year.

That is according to a report from CaughtOffside, who claim that Anderson has been extensively scouted by Chelsea so far this term.

The Blues may, however, need to sanction a major sale in order to land the Nottingham Forest star. Enzo Fernandez has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for several months and Los Blancos are expected to pursue a deal in 2026 amid Xabi Alonso’s desire to bring a new midfielder to the club.

Despite this, CaughtOffside have revealed there is no indication that Chelsea will sell the Argentina superstar next year, which suggests that a move for Anderson remains unlikely.

Elliot Anderson wanted by Chelsea

Anderson has enjoyed an excellent spell at Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has admitted that leaving St James’ Park was the right decision for the 22-year-old.

“It was the best thing,” Shearer said when asked about Anderson’s Newcastle exit on The Rest is Football podcast.

“It was tough for Newcastle and it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for PSR, but it was the best thing that happened to him, to get out and play.

“He wasn’t going to get in Newcastle’s midfield. You’ve got to give him credit. He wouldn’t be far away now [from getting in Newcastle’s midfield], I agree with that.

“He wouldn’t have been able to do what he has done and is doing at Newcastle. Good for him. I’m delighted for him. He’s gone from being a bit-part player at Newcastle to being one of the main guys at Forest and one of England’s.”
