Manchester United were incredibly interested in finalising a deal for the 21-year-old during his time at Benfica, while Real Madrid have identified him as a possible midfield signing as Xabi Alonso looks to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

However, Liverpool have now joined the race to acquire Neves’ signature amid their pursuit of additional reinforcements in January 2026.

The Reds spent a whopping €482.9m on seven new signings during the recent summer transfer window, however they have endured a tough start to the new campaign and they are ready to dip back into the market next year in an attempt to stop their current slide down the table.

Arne Slot’s side won their opening five matches of the 2025-26 Premier League season, but they have suffered six defeats in their last seven English top flight fixtures and they are now languishing down in 11th place in the table.

Joao Neves to Liverpool?

Liverpool lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon and they have reacted to that defeat by targeting a blockbuster move for Neves.

That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim the Anfield outfit are preparing a Premier League record-breaking offer worth €160m as they attempt to sign the PSG superstar.

Luis Enrique’s side, however, have no intention of sanctioning a sale and they are instead determined to retain Neves’ services.

The Portugal star, who has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at PSG, has scored six goals in nine games across Ligue 1 and the Champions League so far this term.
