Chelsea in stunning €185m January raid for wonderkid duo
Chelsea could raid Porto for wonderkid duo Samu Aghehowa and Victor Froholdt as early as the January transfer window, according to a report.
The Blues' divisive transfer policy of primarily signing young players and not being afraid to radically overhaul the team is set to continue in 2026. The club's five sporting directors are fully in tune with the market and ready to pounce on any opportunities that present themselves.
In recent times, Chelsea have taken a particular liking to Portuguese football. Enzo Fernandez was acquired for a then-British record €121 million in January 2023 for Benfica, while Dario Essugo and Geovany Quenda have been signed from Sporting CP this year, with the latter arriving in 2026.
Next year, it looks to be Porto's turn to be raided by the Blues. The Primeira Liga leaders have done some excellent transfer business under president Andre Villas-Boas, formerly of Chelsea.
According to TEAMtalk, two of Porto's most promising stars could be on their way to Stamford Bridge in 2026, and one of them will be a familiar face.
Chelsea plot Aghehowa, Froholdt moves
The report claims that striker Samu Aghehowa and midfielder Victor Froholdt will be targeted by Chelsea, potentially as early as the January transfer window. 21-year-old Aghehowa, then still known by his paternal surname Omorodion, almost joined Chelsea in a €40m deal in 2024.
However, the transfer collapsed, and he left Atletico Madrid for Porto instead, joining for just €15m. An additional €5m has since been paid to acquire a larger percentage of his rights from Atleti.
19-year-old Froholdt, meanwhile, only joined Porto in the summer after widespread interest from Germany and England. The teenager has an €85m release clause, while Aghehowa's stands at a whopping €100m.
While signing the latter would require triggering his clause, the report claims that Froholdt could be snapped up if an 'irresistible' offer in the region of €50m-€60m is made.
However, Chelsea appear to have little need for yet another midfielder, especially in light of Andrey Santos' hugely impressive performance at the weekend. They are also far from the only club keen on the pair, with Tottenham interested in Samu and Atletico Madrid enamoured with Froholdt.
