Chelsea prepare €80m bid for 'SIGNIFICANT' January signing
Chelsea are reportedly ready to submit an €80 million bid for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo during the upcoming January transfer window.
The Brazil international opted to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, despite heavy speculation of a Premier League switch, but a departure could take place in 2026 amid substantial transfer interest.
Rodrygo has only started three of Real Madrid’s 15 fixtures across all competitions so far this term, racking up just 348 minutes of action in the process, and Chelsea have now joined the race to sign him.
Enzo Maresca’s side added Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Estevao Willian, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Facundo Buonanotte (loan) to their attacking ranks this summer, however they remain eager to bolster the first-team options at Stamford Bridge.
Reports have speculated that a €120m winter move for AC Milan’s Rafael Leao could be on the cards, while Rodrygo has now been identified as a key target as the Blues chase a “significant” January transfer.
That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Chelsea are ready to pay €80m to sign the 24-year-old during the mid-season window.
Rodrygo is aware that he isn’t a key player in Xabi Alonso’s plans at the Santiago Bernabeu and he could reportedly ask to leave the club in January if a suitable offer is submitted.
Rodrygo to join Chelsea?
Rodrygo has established himself as one of the world’s best forwards during his time at Real Madrid, with Arsenal and Liverpool also understood to be monitoring his situation with Los Blancos amid rumours of a 2026 exit.
His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €75.2m, however that has fallen substantially over the past few months as he is without a goal in his last 27 Real Madrid appearances.
Despite this, Chelsea reportedly view him as a key transfer target and the Blues are eager to finalise a deal next year as they look to finally win the Premier League title for the first time since 2017.
