Man Utd face €6m problem over 'extraordinary' star perfect for Amorim
Manchester United face a €6 million hurdle in the race to sign RB Salzburg wonderkid Kerim Alajbegovic, according to a report.
The 18-year-old is increasingly hitting the headlines for his performances in Austria. Alajbegovic joined Salzburg from Bayer Leverkusen in a €2 million deal in the summer and has hit like a bomb.
The young winger has scored six goals so far this term and is already a senior Bosnia and Herzegovina international. He netted on his debut against San Marino and is now the youngest goalscorer in the history of his country.
It was recently revealed that several clubs are keeping a close eye on Alajbegovic's development at Salzburg, including Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Man Utd.
Given Salzburg's reputation for producing elite talent, suitors are already licking their lips at the prospect of snapping up Alajbegovic next summer, but there is one major stumbling block.
Leverkusen decide Alajbegovic's future
The problem Alajbegovic's admirers will face in 2026 is the fact that his former club Bayer Leverkusen essentially control his future. The Bundesliga giants have a buy-back clause, and BILD has now revealed that it is worth just €5m-€6m.
It is therefore likely that any interested clubs will have to negotiate with Leverkusen rather than Salzburg next summer, as the German side would be foolish not to bring him back.
Leverkusen have a reputation for selling talent, but they are not as attached to this model as Salzburg and may feel that keeping Alajbegovic for another season could be beneficial. In any case, doing business with them rather than Salzburg could be significantly more expensive.
And even if Leverkusen were not to exercise their option, there is also the interest from Salzburg's sister club RB Leipzig, which could also complicate the matter for Man Utd and others.
BILD has confirmed that the Red Devils are 'scouting him intensively' because of his 'extraordinary development,' and data analytics firm SciSports believes that he has the potential to become a key player at Old Trafford, so following him is the right thing to do.
