Chelsea in talks to RE-SIGN fan favourite
Chelsea have reportedly remained in contact with the representatives of Antonio Rudiger as they look to re-sign the Real Madrid defender next year.
The Germany international left Stamford Bridge to join Los Blancos on a Bosman deal in 2022 and he has enjoyed a hugely successful stint in the Spanish capital.
Rudiger has won eight trophies in his three full seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, including the Champions League, and he has firmly established himself as one of the world’s best central defenders since his arrival at the club.
However, the 32-year-old has only made one appearance so far this season due to a hamstring injury and the summer arrival of Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen has seen his place as a guaranteed starter come under threat.
Furthermore, with Ibrahima Konate widely expected to join Los Blancos on a Bosman deal from Liverpool next summer, Rudiger has been tentatively tipped to leave the club when his contract expires in 2026.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Germany star ever since his exit three years ago and rumours of a return to west London have once again emerged.
Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea?
Spanish publication Marca have confirmed that Rudiger is eager to sign a contract extension at Real Madrid in order to keep him at the club beyond next summer.
However, it’s reported that clubs in Saudi Arabia are keeping close tabs on his situation as they look to tempt him to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in favour of joining the richest division in world football.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also in contact with Rudiger’s representatives, with the Blues maintaining a “cordial relationship” with his camp since his departure.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was eager to sign a new centre-back this summer, following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury, but the Stamford Bridge hierarchy opted against finalising a deal due to the options still available in west London.
A move for Rudiger would likely help the youthful backline at Chelsea, however it’s understood that he would prefer to sign a new contract at Real Madrid instead of returning to the Premier League giants in 2026.
