Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been spotted training with Arsenal as he weighs up his next move.

The 32-year-old is back where it all began. After coming through the Southampton academy, Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal as a teenager and went on to make almost 200 appearances for the club.

An energetic midfielder, the England international became something of a utility man towards the end of his time with the Gunners, even moving into a wing-back role.

He left Arsenal for Liverpool in 2017 and, despite several serious injuries, attained cult hero status for his performances when fit. He won the Champions League and Premier League, among other trophies, during his six years at Anfield.

He joined Turkish side Besiktas on a free transfer in 2023, but struggled to have much of an impact at his new club. He has been a free agent since the summer, when he left the Istanbul giants to return to England.

However, so far, his search for a new club has not met with success. This has now prompted him to return to Arsenal to keep himself fit while he considers his options.

According to Sky Sports, Oxlade-Chamberlain is primarily training with the Gunners' U21s, so he is not going to be an unexpected reinforcement for Mikel Arteta's title-chasing side.

The report also states that the veteran midfielder has turned down 'a number of lucrative offers from abroad' because of his priority to find a new club in England.

Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has suggested that Oxlade-Chamberlain's former Gunners teammate Jack Wilshere should try to sign the 32-year-old for his new side Luton Town in League One.

"It depends what level he wants to play at," Sherwood said. "But if I'm Jack Wilshere, and I know it's League One, I am absolutely ringing his phone off the hook to get him to come and play for his old mate and help out that group at Luton.

"But he might have his sights a lot higher, and he probably has."

Earlier this year, it was reported that promoted Championship side Birmingham City were interested in signing Oxlade-Chamberlain.
