Ange faces Marinakis wrath: Nottingham Forest boss 'sacked next week'
Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou could already be sacked next week, according to a report.
The 60-year-old has endured a torrid start to life at the City Ground, failing to win any of his first six games in charge. Given Nottingham Forest's ambition under Evangelos Marinakis, Postecoglou is under pressure.
The former Tottenham boss has already lost the backing of the Forest faithful, who chanted 'you're getting sacked in the morning' during Thursday's Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland.
Postecoglou's disastrous start will have come as a shock to Marinakis, who views the Athens-born manager as a kindred spirit. The two have an excellent relationship, and a potential cooperation at Forest appeared inevitable for years.
After sacking Nuno Espirito Santo following his falling-out with director Edu, Marinakis wanted his side to evolve. Instead, they have seemingly regressed, and the supporters made their feelings clear when they chanted Nuno's name on Thursday.
Postecoglou to be sacked?
According to the Daily Mail, Postecoglou's position is becoming increasingly untenable, and Sunday's clash with Newcastle could already seal his fate. Should Forest again fail to win, it is not inconceivable that Ange will be sacked during the international break.
Meanwhile, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has struck a less alarmist tone. He insists that Postecoglou still retains the backing of Marinakis. "It’s just the beginning, so nothing about a reaction from the owners," he told GIVEMESPORT.
"Postecoglou needs time to adapt to a new team after joining Nottingham Forest," Romano added. However, it remains to be seen if Marinakis will afford his good friend that time.
After all, the Greek magnate spent €237 million on new recruits in the summer, and his long-term ambition is to get into the Champions League. The Reds' regression had already set in under Nuno, but Marinakis' managerial change appears to have exacerbated rather than fixed the club's issues.
