Son Heung-min could make Premier League return after stunning MLS impact
Former Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has the ability to return to Europe in the Major League Soccer offseason due to a 'David Beckham-clause' in his contract, according to a report.
The South Korean superstar left Spurs after a hugely successful decade following their Europa League triumph. He joined MLS franchise LAFC in a league-record €22 million deal in the summer, and his impact so far has been sensational.
The 33-year-old has formed MLS's most dangerous partnership with star forward Denis Bouanga, who could still beat Lionel Messi to the regular-season golden boot on Decision Day on Saturday.
Bouanga currently has 24 goals, while Messi sits on 26 with a superior assist count, so the Gabon international would have to outscore the Inter Miami icon. Son and his 30-year-old partner in crime have scored 18 of LAFC's last 20 goals.
In just nine appearances for LAFC, Son has netted a whopping eight times and provided three assists. Since his arrival, LAFC have only lost twice in 11 games, and he was only on the pitch for one of those defeats.
Son could return to Europe
According to The Sun, Son could make a spectacular return to Europe due to a 'David Beckham-clause' in his contract, which allows him to make a short-term loan during the offseason.
Beckham famously returned to Europe during his transformative stint with the LA Galaxy to join AC Milan on a brief loan deal. Former New York Red Bulls superstar Thierry Henry also made use of such a transfer. He made an emotional return to Arsenal to properly say goodbye to the fans.
However, in an age with such a crammed schedule and sophisticated sports science, it is thought that Son will instead use the offseason to get proper rest ahead of the new campaign and the 2026 World Cup.
A potential move back to Tottenham, or the Premier League in general, is viewed as improbable. Spurs, although they have been ravaged by injuries in the attack, have enjoyed a solid start to life under Thomas Frank, so they will be fine without their former talisman.
