Man Utd want Cristiano Ronaldo reunion worth MILLIONS
Manchester United are seeking to use the power of Cristiano Ronaldo to help them sign some of the world’s best players.
Left without European football this season after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur last term, United have been faced with a black hole in their budget worth some €120 million.
Co-owner Ineos is looking at creative ways to plug this gap and has come across the idea of harnessing Ronaldo’s marketing draw in order to do it.
The Sun reports that big wigs at Old Trafford are seeking to fix up a mid-season friendly against Al-Nassr in what United hope will be a money-spinning move to go someway to fixing their financial issues.
Ronaldo, of course, is a legend at Man Utd, having enjoyed two spells at the club. The latest of these ended in a fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag, leading CR7 to sign for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in a deal that will go down as one of the defining transfers of the 21st century.
He remains an icon among the Red Devils’ fanbase and Ineos wants to leverage this by setting up a friendly against his current side.
“Ruben Amorim could be sold on a trip to the Middle East if it doubles up as a warm-weather training camp in the winter months,” The Sun claims.
Possible friendly opponents for Man Utd
Al-Nassr are not Man Utd’s only options when it comes to mid-season friendly matches. It is reported that they have looked at the possibility of facing other European giants who do not have midweek European commitments.
AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Lazio and Sevilla have all been touted as potential opponents for United.
There is little doubt, though, that the prospect of a reunion with Ronaldo in cash-rich Saudi would offer the most appetising prospect financially for Man Utd.
