Man Utd scout wonderkid LOVED by Frank Lampard
Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Coventry City youngster George Shepherd next year.
The 16-year-old midfielder was included in the Sky Blues’ matchday squad for the first time during their 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon and his progress is being closely monitored by Man Utd.
That is according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Ruben Amorim’s side are “one of the high-profile clubs tracking Shepherd.”
The teenager scored on his Premier League Cup debut for Coventry’s U21 side earlier this season and he is now a regular in first-team training under Chelsea legend Frank Lampard at Coventry.
Man Utd were linked with both Jude and Jobe Bellingham during their time in the Championship, while they are also long-term admirers of Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney. As a result, Shepherd is the latest second-tier midfielder to appear on their radar, although it remains to be seen whether or not they will submit an official bid in 2026.
Frank Lampard on Man Utd target George Shepherd
When asked if Shepherd was brought into the first-team fold to make up numbers during the October international break, Lampard told reporters (via CoventryLive): “No, he’s been a bit longer than that. He was probably with us in the last international break.
“He’s been training with us, on and off, a lot and he’s training great. He’s a really talented young boy, a local lad and a Coventry fan. He loves the club and he’s still 16.
“He’s been playing on the right wing a little bit for us in the 21s at the minute but he can play as a ten. There’s a bit of an eight/ten there so he’s a very versatile attacking player and he’s a kid. And he deserves his chance on the bench because of how he’s trained.”
Lampard continued: “He needs to continue but it was a nice little story to get him on there. And it’s not just a gift because the way he’s training and with our squad size, he’s training and deserves to be on the bench at the minute, so it’s a good story.”
