Carlos Baleba 'to hand in transfer request' to help seal Man Utd move
Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba is ready to hand in a transfer request next month to force through a January move to Manchester United, according to a sensational report.
The Cameroon international was the subject of late-window interest from the Red Devils in the summer, but no move materialised due to Brighton's unyielding not-for-sale stance.
Since joining the Seagulls in 2023 as a replacement for Moises Caicedo, Baleba has developed into one of the Premier League's best midfielders. Brighton felt that the 21-year-old should complete at least one more season at the Amex before making the jump to a bigger team.
The South Coast club are smart sellers and know that another impressive year will only increase Baleba's value. They hope that they can secure a fee in excess of €100 million for the midfielder, as they did with his predecessor.
Although Baleba had agreed personal terms with Man Utd, he was respectful of Brighton's stance and did not agitate for a move. However, head coach Fabian Hurzeler admitted last month that his performances have been affected by the transfer speculation.
Baleba to demand January transfer
Baleba remains keen on Man Utd, and Man Utd remain keen on Baleba. While there are question marks over whether the Old Trafford club could afford him, there is no doubt that they will try again for him in 2026.
With the January window approaching, it seems that Baleba is ready to take matters into his own hands. According to transfer insider account Indykaila, which broke the initial news of Man Utd's interest in Baleba, the youngster is prepared to hand in a transfer request.
It is claimed that the player's representatives will meet with Brighton in November to discuss his future and give voice to his desire to make a move in January.
Whether anything will come of this remains to be seen, but the timing would be awkward for a move in the winter. Not only is it generally harder - and more expensive - to sign elite players in January, but Baleba will also likely not be in Europe for a good chunk of the month.
The Africa Cup of Nations is taking place between 21 December and 16 January, and the 21-year-old is fully expected to be part of Cameroon's squad for the tournament in Morocco.
