Man Utd 'pushing hard' to complete blockbuster Chelsea transfer
Manchester United are reportedly “pushing hard” to complete a surprise deal for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos amid competition from Serie A giants Juventus.
The Brazil international returned to Stamford Bridge in June following a hugely successful 18-month loan spell at Strasbourg and he was the subject of fairly substantial transfer interest from across world football.
West Ham United and Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah both submitted an official offer for the 21-year-old over the summer, while Man Utd were also eager to agree a deal amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder following the departure of Christian Eriksen.
However, Chelsea were reluctant to sanction a sale due to their desire to promote Santos into a prominent first-team role.
The Brazilian registered 11 goals and five assists across all competitions last season and he was even dubbed ‘the best player in the world’ by Strasbourg team-mate Diego Moreira earlier this year.
Despite this, he has failed to usurp Moises Caicedo or Enzo Fernandez since moving back to west London, and he has only started three matches in all competitions so far this season, including Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.
Santos has racked up just 378 minutes of action in 2025-26, and Man Utd have now opted to intensify their pursuit of his signature.
Andrey Santos to Man Utd?
Man Utd have added Santos to a six-man midfield transfer shortlist, according to talkSPORT, with Ruben Amorim’s side also tracking the development of Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Conor Gallagher and Angelo Stiller.
Meanwhile, Italian publication TuttoJuve state that Man Utd could submit an official offer to Chelsea in the January transfer window.
However, the west London side reportedly have no intention of sanctioning a sale to a direct Premier League rival, and Santos is still regarded as a key player for the long-term project at Stamford Bridge.
Serie A giants Juventus are also eager to land the Brazil midfielder in 2026, although it remains to be seen whether they have the financial backing to submit a suitable offer for the 21-year-old.
