Man Utd get Mateta green light as Crystal Palace open door over €46m transfer
Manchester United are among the sides desperate to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta after another blistering start to the new season by the Crystal Palace striker.
Mateta has become a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League during the last few seasons for Palace, with 30 goals across the last two campaigns, leading to his first call-up for the French national team this month, to some controversy.
The 28-year-old has continued his fine form into this season with five goals in Palace’s first eight Premier League matches and his record has only further fuelled speculation over his future.
Mateta’s current contract at Selhurst Park is set to expire in 2027 and CaughtOffside report that Palace are ‘unlikely’ to engage in talks over a new deal due to a belief that the Frenchman wants a move to a bigger club.
Despite his importance and form for Oliver Glasner’s side, the report claims that Palace could look to cash in on their talismanic forward in January for around £40 million (€46m.)
United are credited with an interest in Mateta alongside Tottenham and Newcastle, with Ruben Amorim’s side thought to have considered a move for the striker during the summer before eventually signing Benjamin Sesko.

United are believed to be in the market for a more experienced alternative to Sesko who can provide a mentorship role as well as competition to the 22-year-old, leading to links to Robert Lewandowski among others.
SciSports, who use data-driven analytics to assess a player, had previously suggested a strong fit between Mateta and United, particularly in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
Mateta spoke earlier this month of his main focus being to secure a place in France’s squad at next summer’s World Cup and refused to fully commit his future to Palace.
When asked about a potential contract extension at Palace, Mateta said: “I’m focused on my season. If they offer me a contract, we will see what happens. I’m just thinking about the [next game].."
