Liverpool make Florian Wirtz sale decision
Florian Wirtz has been linked with a sensational Liverpool departure following his slow start to life at Anfield, however there are no plans for the club to sanction a sale next year.
The Germany international briefly became the most expensive player in Premier League history following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million in July, but he has struggled to display his best form in England.
Wirtz is without a goal contribution in his first nine Premier League appearances, while he has already been named on the substitutes bench on three occasions by Arne Slot as the Dutchman looks to find the right balance following a €482.9m summer spending spree.
With Wirtz struggling to adapt to English top flight football, he has been sensationally linked with an early Liverpool exit and rumours suggest that Xabi Alonso could look to bring him to Real Madrid in 2026.
The 22-year-old shone under Alonso’s management during their time together at Bayer Leverkusen and it’s been reported that a reunion could potentially be on the cards if Wirtz’s struggles at Liverpool continue.
However, football transfer news expert Graeme Bailey has poured cold water on such claims.
Florian Wirtz to leave Liverpool?
“Regarding speculation surrounding Wirtz’s future, Liverpool are totally dismissive of anything around him,” Bailey told Rousing the Kop.
“Social media can be quite vociferous with things, but Liverpool know they’ve got a world class player. Talk of them thinking about cashing in or anything like that is absolute nonsense.
“They’re committed to Wirtz, there’s no ifs or buts, they love him as a person and a player and know he’ll come good.”
Wirtz, who registered 122 goal contributions in 197 games during a hugely successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen, was also wanted by Bayern Munich and Manchester City this summer, with Liverpool fighting off significant competition to land his signature.
