Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has responded to claims that he could be in line to takeover from Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Howe is one of a number of candidates who have been put forward as a potential successor to Amorim should the Portuguese lose his job at Old Trafford.

A 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford last weekend has left the Man Utd head coach more vulnerable than ever, and while he appears to still have the backing of the board, there are serious ‘fears’ that he could resign should the Red Devils suffer a negative result against Sunderland on Saturday.

Howe has enjoyed tremendous success at Newcastle, propelling the St James’ Park club into regular contenders to qualify for the Champions League, and was asked about potentially making the jump to Manchester United.

“My commitment is that I am all in,” Howe said. “I am 100 per cent here and always have been.

“My family are still here and we are fighting everyday to make a success of what we are doing. The season ahead could be a wonderful thing and that is what I want to focus on.”

Is Eddie Howe ready to leave Newcastle?

Newcastle have fears that Howe will walk away after a frustrating summer.

Not only did the Magpies see Alexander Isak successfully force a transfer to Liverpool against their will, they were also unable to reinvest in the transfer market as they might have wished. This was due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which have prevented Newcastle’s owners from exploiting their spending potential.

Ultimately, Newcastle were forced to splash out €75m on striker Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart in a deal that saw them branded “idiots” by Bayern Munich.

Yoane Wissa has also been recruited from Brentford but has yet to feature for his new club due to injury – a problem that Sky Sports reports will keep him out for another four to eight weeks.

To make matters worse, it’s been a slow start in the Premier League for Howe’s side, who have won just one of their opening six fixtures, putting them below Man Utd in the table.
