Estevao in incredible Lamine Yamal comparison – and Chelsea team-mate is RIGHT
Chelsea’s Jorrel Hato has compared club-mate Estevao Willian to Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal after another sparkling display from the young Brazilian in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Blues eased to a 5-1 victory over Hato’s former club Ajax, with Estevao notching the fourth goal from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time.
It was the 18-year-old’s second goal in 11 appearances since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Palmeiras in a €45 million deal in the summer, but the Brazilian has already done enough to win comparisons to Yamal.
“Have I seen a teenager like this? Yes, maybe Lamine Yamal - but I cannot name anyone else,” Hato said of Estevao in quotes relayed by BBC Sport.
“He was really good - he is very young, even younger than me.”
How good is Estevao?
It’s still difficult to judge Estevao’s level based on a small sample size of playing at the top level in Europe. After all, he has played only 443 minutes since arriving at Chelsea.
The teenager has already shown that he is a player for the big moment thanks to his winning goal against Liverpool on 4 October.
When it comes to value, though, Hato’s assessment is strong – at least in terms of teenagers playing currently.
According to FootballTransfers’ unique algorithm, which bases valuations on hundreds of in-game data points, there are only two more valuable teenagers than the Chelsea starlet: Barcelona pair Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.
The world's 10 most valuable teenagers
Rank | Name | Club | Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) |
1 | Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | €187.2m |
2 | Pau Cubarsi | Barcelona | €128.5m |
3 | Estevao Willian | Chelsea | €76.3m |
4 | Ethan Nwaneri | Arsenal | €74.7m |
5 | Warren Zaire-Emery | PSG | €70.4m |
6 | Leny Yoro | Man Utd | €65.5m |
7 | Myles Lewis-Skelly | Arsenal | €60m |
8 | Archie Gray | Tottenham | €58.9m |
9 | Jorrel Hato | Chelsea | €56.3m |
10 | Lucas Bergvall | Tottenham | €51.8m |
Estevao has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €76.3m – over 50% more than the figure the Stamford Bridge side paid for him. This puts him just ahead of Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri (€74.7m) and PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery (€70.4m).
Barcelona pair Lamine and Cubarsi are by far the most valuable teenage talents, though. Indeed, the Barca attacker is the most valuable player in the world, with his ETV having reached €182.7m, eclipsing that of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
Cubarsi, meanwhile, has an ETV of €128.5m, making him the most valuable defender in the game currently.
Hato’s claim that Estevao is the best teenager in the world isn’t far off the mark, with the Chelsea starlet only lagging behind Lamine and Cubarsi when it comes to valuation at least.
