Chelsea are in contract talks with Malo Gusto and want to tie down the future of the France international star as rapidly as possible.

Gusto is under contract until 2030, but the 22-year-old was subject to interest from several big clubs during the summer and now the Blues are acting to ensure they secure the player’s long-term future.

Implementing a policy that they began when they offered Cole Palmer a substantial pay rise when he extended his contract in 2024 with a hefty salary rise, Chelsea are now set to do the same with the Frenchman, RMC reports.

Gusto is a player on the rise at Chelsea, and the club wants to give him a contract that reflects that. He will get a salary boost as well as a deal that would extend his Stamford Bridge stay by “one or two additional years”.

Having arrived at the West London side in the summer of 2023 from Lyon in a deal worth €30 million, Gusto has benefitted from the injury problems of Reece James to establish himself firmly in the thinking of manager Enzo Maresca.

Even with the Englishman fit and firing again, Gutso has managed to play 10 times this season for the Blues, showing the greater importance he has been given.

Malo Gusto has earned his new Chelsea contract

Gusto’s performances for Chelsea have been of a high level for months.

He performed to a good level compared to other full-backs in the Premier League last season, according to data analytics firm SciSports, but this season his form has stepped up a level.

In line with his steady rise in quality, Gusto’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has climbed to €31.9m.

Furthermore, he is seen as a player who is established as a first-team player for Chelsea, with the potential to become a key player for the Blues in the years ahead.
